Privacy policy
Effective 15 September 2026. This policy describes the current behaviour of this site.
Fantera has no accounts and no advertising or cross-site tracking. Your viewing preferences are kept in your own browser rather than in an account. We use one analytics service, and only if you allow it: nothing is loaded or stored until you choose Allow on the banner.
What we do not collect
We do not ask you to register, we do not build a profile of you across sites or devices, and we do not sell or share information for advertising. The seen titles and preferences described below never leave your browser except as a filter sent back to this site, and they are not linked to your identity.

These values belong to this browser and are not an account synced across devices. The fantera_prefs cookie is the only one of the three sent with requests to this site;
it exists so the server can leave titles you have already seen out of recommendations before the
page reaches you. It is refreshed whenever your preferences are saved.
Information sent to our servers
Search text you enter into the Finder is sent to the server to resolve titles and suggestions. The Seen page loads catalogue details for your saved IDs in batches. Beyond that, requests carry the ordinary information any web server receives in order to return a page.
This does not mean that hosting and network services keep no operational logs. Links to other sites take you to services with their own practices.
The Fantera newsletter
If you sign up through the newsletter page, Fantera sends your email address and a fixed source label identifying this signup page to beehiiv. Beehiiv manages the subscriber list, email confirmation, delivery, and unsubscribe requests. An address must be confirmed before receiving the newsletter.
Fantera does not add your newsletter email to its catalogue database, cookies, or browser storage. Beehiiv processes subscriber and email engagement information according to its privacy policy. You can leave through the unsubscribe link in a newsletter email.
Analytics
We use PostHog to see which guides get read, where readers arrive from, and where the site gets in their way. If you allow it, PostHog records:
- the pages you visit, the site that referred you, and an approximate location worked out from your connection's address
- a session replay: a reconstruction of each page as you saw it, including scrolling, mouse movement, and clicks
- the elements you click, which build heatmaps of each page
- messages the site writes to the browser console, and how long pages and their requests take to load
- a few named actions, such as starting a newsletter signup or running a Finder search
Anything typed into a form field is masked before it leaves your browser, so a replay shows that something was typed but not what. Your email address is therefore never sent to PostHog, and a newsletter signup is recorded only as an outcome. Finder searches are different: the search appears in the page address and on the results page, so PostHog does record what you searched for.
None of this runs until you choose Allow on the banner. Choose Decline and the PostHog code is never downloaded, so no analytics cookies are created. If you change your mind, clearing this site's cookies and local storage removes the stored answer and the banner returns. PostHog processes this information according to its privacy policy.
Service providers
Cloudflare serves the site and processes requests. Anime artwork and catalogue data come from AniList, fonts may load from Google Fonts, and PostHog receives analytics if you allow it. Visiting the site therefore makes requests to those services, which receive the network information needed to deliver their resources. Their handling of those requests is governed by their own policies: see the Cloudflare privacy policy, AniList terms, and the Google privacy policy.
Your choices
Use the Seen page to remove individual marks. Clearing this site's cookies and local storage in your browser removes the saved preferences and theme. Clearing only the cookie while retaining local storage allows the site to recreate the cookie on your next visit. Newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe from any issue.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13. There are no accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the newsletter signup, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it. Material changes to what is stored, what is sent, or which service providers are involved will be described on this page rather than made silently.
